Fleur de Ville

Nestled in a former 19ᵗʰ-century bank building in Brussels, Hotel Fleur de Ville reimagines heritage with cinematic poise. The structure was originally designed by architect Hendrik Beyaert, later expanded by Henri van Dievoet and Alban Chambon; its neoclassical and neo-Renaissance layers became the raw canvas for SZ Design’s “Fragments in Time” approach. The design embraces and reinterprets original mouldings, decorative flourishes, and architectural relics - infusing them with contemporary textures, light, and material interplay so that each corner feels both discovered and familiar.

Throughout the 51 rooms and suites, spatial narratives shift: Iris rooms look out onto the city’s rhythm while Bluebell rooms turn inward toward the garden, their large windows flooding spaces with daylight. On the hotel’s first floor, era restaurant occupies what was once a council chamber, its soaring ceilings, retro-chic bones, and vintage ornamentation forming a theatrical backdrop for modern European cuisine.

SZ Design’s vision is anchored in craft: original mouldings were restored rather than replaced; light fixtures blend vintage charm with modern geometry; fabrics and surfaces nod to both archival memory and current sensibility. The building’s past is not masked, it is invited in, layered, and dialogued with, so the hotel feels like a living palimpsest, where guest experience is a journeyman through time, texture, and intimate modern luxury.
